Active in Mind

Active in Mind -is a Mental Health intervention programme delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust aimed at secondary aged children.

This peer mentoring programme is delivered through a training day with the selected peer mentors and the selected nurture group of students.

An athlete mentor from the Youth Sport Trust will train a selected group of student mentors (5-10 students Year 9s or 10s) to be able to support a nurture group of 15-20 selected learners (Year 7s or 8s) who have been identified as suffering from low level anxiety/school stress.

The athlete mentor will train the mentor group in a range of mental health support techniques which will enable them to run a 6-week activity-based programme to manage school more positively. The peer mentors will run active nurture clubs where play and sport are used as a method to tackle the issues mentioned. Conversation and a chance to check in will also be built into these sessions, creating a safe place for the nuture group to begin to thrive in school.

The athlete mentor will return after the six weeks for a half-day follow-up celebration with all the learners involved.
